I lead our KCRG-TV9 i9 Investigative
Team while turning day turn stories four to five days a week. Those stories help us develop sources across different beats. My stories have found mayoral candidates breaking state laws, officials didn't know how to call the National Guard during a disaster and have led to bills in the state legislature.
Then, we use those connections to gather data and documents through open record requests.
This allows our station to add more depth to stories on a daily basis. And integrate our investigative brand more often into our coverage.
Once a week, occasionally, I have a
day to work on a story without the pressure of a deadline. It creates an opportunity to generate watchdog reporting.
